Dinesh Jain (25), in his suicide note, written in Hindi and signed in English, said: “I admit to killing my wife and daughters and am also ending my life. No one else is responsible for this. I am also sorry I wasn’t able to serve my old parents.”

Jain lived in a third-floor flat in Jalaram Park building on LBS Marg, Bhandup (W). He lived with his wife Monica (22), four-year-old daughter Harsha, nine-month-old daughter Toshika, his parents, elder brother and his family. They jointly owned two grocery shops and business was doing well, the police said.

At the time of the incident, the only people at home were the couple who died and their daughters, the police said. “A fortnight ago, Jayantilal (Dinesh’s brother), his wife Ramila and two children, and his parents, left for Udaipur for a religious event.

Ramila returned a few days ago and on Thursday morning, went to Mulund to live with her mother who was ill,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police Deepak Gajool. When she returned to the Bhandup flat around 9 am on Friday, “She rang the bell but no one responded,” said deputy commissioner of police, zone VII, R. M. Vhatkar.

“It appears he first killed his wife by smothering her with a pillow and slashing her wrists. He then strangled his daughters with a rope, which was found around Toshika’s throat. He slashed his wrist before hanging himself,” said Vhatkar.

“There was a plate with pieces of apples. Someone visited the family between 8.30 pm and 10.30 pm. We are checking the couple’s call records,” Gajool said.
