Man moves court, accuses cop of unfairly detaining his cars

Petitioner, Vishal Gada, had moved court challenging the action taken by traffic police at the instance of police inspector, Pradip Salekar, who had allegedly clamped two cars of the petitioner of which one is still in the custody of the authorities even after 40 days.

It is stated that on February 23, Salekar and his colleague stopped Gada from parking his car near his house in Bazargate street in Fort.

Gada protested and said that neither was there a “no parking” sign in the area nor was he obstructing traffic movement and that he had been parking in that spot for years.

The police then asked him to hand over his license and directed him to go to MRA police station. The traffic police then clamped two cars that belonged to the petitioner.

It is said that the police filed a charge sheet for offense under the Motor Vehicle Act for obstruction of traffic. Gada states that even though they released one of his cars, the other car remained clamped around 40 days before it was towed away on March 29.
