The incident took place around 8pm on Turner Road. Police said Meherban Irani opened fire during an argument with a builder who had bought his sister’s bungalow on Turner Road.

She had sold the property to developer in 2004 but was allowed to stay on the property as long as she wished. She died around a month ago and her brothers and sisters had started staking claim to the property.

On Thursday evening, when they learnt that the builder’s men had entered the bungalow and started moving furniture out, the Irani brothers rushed to the scene and got into an argument with the builder.

KMM Prasanna, deputy commissioner of police (zone 9), said, “Nobody was injured in the firing. It is a property dispute.”

“Irani has been booked for attempted murder, while the developer will be booked for trespassing.” Prasanna added.
