The police arrested a self proclaimed social worker for cheating a 38 year old man of Rs 1.45 lakh by promising to get his son admitted into an engineering college on Monday.

“The complainant, Kaishal Bind, a resident of Sion Koliwada, approached Tahir Samiullah, who runs a non governmental organisation in Saat Raasta in March,” said Sub Inspector Arjun Dhanawade from Agripada police station.

Bind, whose son had scored 48 per cent in HSC, wanted to admit him into an engineering college. “The NGO had a display board claiming to solve all problems,” said Dhanawade.

Samiullah demanded Rs 1.50 lakh from Bind to secure his son’s admission in Sabusiddik Engineering College. Bind told him that he will pay the entire amount in installments.

Till June, Bind had paid Samiullah Rs 1.45 lakh. But the latter failed to secure admission. “Bind finally lodged a complaint against Samiullah. We arrested him on Monday.

We found that Samiullah has a cheating complaint worth Rs 40 lakh registered against him with Tardeo police,” said Dhanawade.
