An official from the Maharashtra Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Kalina said, “While the FSL has several departments like DNA testing, ballistics and chemical testing, both the sundown party case and the Mantralaya fire case come under the chemical testing department.”

“After the first batch of 46 blood samples had been tested and sent to the police, the department of chemical testing was to begin working on the remaining 46 samples. However, the fire at Mantralaya broke out, and since it is more important, all other cases have been put on hold,” said the official.

He added, “It should take us a week’s time to finish testing of articles we got from Mantralaya to determine whether the fire was natural or a case of arson.”

The tests of the 46 blood samples will begin thereafter. In addition to the blood tests that will determine if the revellers had taken drugs, the urine test, that will indicate alcohol consumption, will also be delayed. The police have asked for an alcohol test as the revellers have also been booked under the Bombay Prohibition Act for not having a permit to consume alcohol.
