Marathi films in multiplexes: Sena moves high court

While Raj Thackeray-led MNS is taking the cause Marathi movies in multiplexes to the streets, Shiv Sena has approached the high court for the same issue.

Sameer Dixit, general secretary of the Maharashtra Cine and Television Sena, has filed an application in the high court seeking permission to intervene in the petition of Cinema Owners’ and Exhibitors’ Association.

The association had approached the HC in December 2008 challenging the government’s decision of compulsory screening of Marathi films in multiplexes.

On June 15, the high court admitted this petition and reduced the number of shows to 44.

Sena wants to intervene saying that at least 500 shows must be screened.

The intervention application will come up for hearing on August 24.
