Investigations revealed that the stolen property in the Matunga robbery case was valued at Rs 1.4 crore and not Rs 40 lakh that the police had earlier estimated.

On Friday, Dhanshri (35), a Nepali watchman, and his six accomplices, assaulted Shantilal Dedhiya (56) and his wife Poornima (52) at their Matunga flat and fled with cash and jewellery.

The police took down the statement of Shantilal Dedhiya on Monday after he was discharged from Hinduja Hospital.
“Rs 47 lakh cash and 4.3 kg of gold was stolen from the house. Dedhiya had donated a plot at Thane for the construction of a temple. The cash stolen was the donation amount for the temple,” said senior inspector Sunil Deshmkuh.
