Mumbai: Municipal Commissioner Subodh Kumar on Friday set May 15 as the deadline for the civic administration to make Mumbai monsoon-ready.

He asked his staff to desilt drains, fill potholes and repair roads in the next 23 days.
“We gave the work order on Thursday for desilting of nullahs and fixed the timeframe,” Kumar said after a review of pre-monsoon work with various departments in a day-long meeting.
Every year, the Brihan-mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) faces flak for failing to finish pre-monsoon work on time; several areas get flooded every time it rains hard and potholes dot roads across the city.
“We have begun repairing surfaces that are not level as well as the cracks to ensure they don’t turn into potholes,” Kumar said.
Over 400 km of roads have been dug up by various utilities, such as the water and sewage operation departments, for laying pipelines or repairing and maintaining cables.
