Shashank Rao, assistant General Secretary of Mumbai Autorickshawmen's Union said, “We have asked for the meeting to be held soon. We want to put forth our suggestion to review the recent fare hike. We want fares to be drawn up as per the Patankar Committee report of 1993. The current fare structure is based on Hakkim Committee report of 1996, which was meant for taxis, while the earlier one was solely meant for auto-rickshaws.”

The union members had met chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on October 8, who had agreed for Re1 hike in base fare and a subsequent 50 paisa hike for every kilometer thereon.

An RTO official said, on condition of anonymity, “The union's meeting with Transport Commissioner is of no use now as the CM has given his final verdict on the issue. Such meetings will not yield any results on this issue.”
