The revised layout plans of Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) plots are increasingly showing inflated plot areas. Take the case of a plot in Tilak Nagar, where a 1,411 square metre plot has been revised to 1911 sq metres.

The data is being manipulated as it benefits both builders as well as residents who live on buildings on the plot as there can be more development on the plot.
It, however, is putting a huge strain on infrastructure in the area.
A senior MHADA official told Hindustan Times that the manipulation is being done by a group of architects, who have been assigned the task of revising layouts for all MHADA plots across the city. “They carry out the inflation and the MHADA executive engineer assigned to certify the plan is kept in the dark,” the official alleged.
Redevelopment rules require all plots to be measured again before the go-ahead for the new project.
Mubarak Khan, Mhada board committee member, said there were no manipulations. “MHADA works in a transparent manner and it may just be a misunderstanding on your part,” said Khan.
