Till late on Saturday, the Malwani police were unable to identify the person who attacked a 24-year-old woman in the compound of her building in Malad west in the early hours of Friday.
Police alleged that the victim Namrata Udeshi was not cooperating with them. However, Udeshi refuted the allegation saying she had shared every piece of information she held in connection with the attack.
Udeshi, who resides in Gemini Apartment at Malwani was strolling in her society premises around 1.30am on Friday when an unidentified person on a bike approached her and tried to strike a conversation. Udeshi stated that she did not know the man and started walking back to her house when he charged at her and slashed her cheek with a blade. The police questioned two of Namrata's friends who had sent her a text message an hour before the incident but found that they were not involved in the crime.
Udeshi managed to note down the last four digits of the motorbike. "We are trying to find the assailant with the help of the registration number of the bike. However, it is going to take a couple of days, as the registration number is incomplete," said a police officer from the Malwani police station.

{{/usCountry}}"We have already got in touch with the Regional Transport Office and are trying to trace the number. But we will have to wait till Monday as the RTO is closed on weekends. We will surely arrest the accused soon," said Mahesh Patil, deputy commissioner of police (zone 11) adding that the security in the area would also be beefed up to avoid any such incidents in the future.
Ritesh Sharma, the watchman on duty at Udeshi's premises when the incident happened, told the police that he thought the man was a friend of the woman. Sharma is believed to have told the police that Udeshi's friends often came to meet her inside the building premises.
