Minors found at CST say they were forced into prostitution

The CST Government Railway Police (GRP) registered a case of gang-rape after three minor girls alleged that they had been brought to the city from Bangladesh under the pretext of jobs and forced into prostitution. GRP officials said the incident came to light after the girls were found roaming around CST in a shocked state on Thursday evening. The police are trying to trace the accused.

After they were spotted at the station, the police brought them to the police station and enquired about their antecedents, when they claimed that one person had brought them to India from Bangladesh.

The police said the accused, identified as one Anwar, told the girls’ parents that they would be employed in Mumbai as housemaids and would earn Rs20,000 a month.
“During questioning, the girls [all aged between 16 and 17] stated that they were brought to Mumbai via West Bengal and were handed over to one Amit. They were later taken to an unknown location and forced into prostitution. The girls managed to escape while Amit was taking them in a local train to another place,” said an officer of CST GRP.

The GRP officials have registered a case against Anwar, Karim, Amit and others under sections 363 (kidnapping), 366 (B) (importing girls from foreign land), 373 (buying minors for purpose of prostitution), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 34 (acts with common intention) along with sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
