The Mira Road police are baffled about the motive that drove a 38-year-old Paresh Burke, to hire his nephew Anil Palwe to kill two of his three daughters from his first wife.

The Mira Road police are baffled about the motive that drove a 38-year-old Paresh Burke, to hire his nephew Anil Palwe to kill two of his three daughters from his first wife. Burke, who was employed with the postal department, was produced in court and has been remanded to police custody till March 29.

The police have found several loopholes in Burke’s statement. Burke told the police that he wanted to kill his daughters because he was reeling under heavy debt and could not sustain his two families. Burke had borrowed Rs13 lakh and was facing difficulty in repaying it. Despite his dire financial straits, he managed to pay Rs50,000 to his nephew to kill his daughters — 11-year-old Pavitra and 9-year-old Ganga. “Burke’s explanation is vague,” said Nitin Sambatvad, DSP, Mira Road. The police are hunting for Palwe and suspect that he is the mastermind behind the crime.

Burke said that he wanted to kill his daughters as would not be able to afford the expenses of their weddings. However, he could not explain why he had chosen only Pavitra and Ganga and spared his third daughter from first wife — 7-year-old Shraddha.
