In an ambitious plan aimed at improving connectivity in the city, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority plans to connect the sea link with the MTHL through a 4km elevated road. "We have recently floated tenders looking out for consultants to help us update the detailed project report (DPR) and manage the bid process for the east-west connector from Sewri to Worli," metropolitan commissioner Rahul Asthana said.

Asthana claimed that the consultant will help in evaluating whether the elevated road is feasible and will also suggest if certain parts of the road need to be built as an underpass.

Once the 22-km MTHL is completed, this road will provide commuters a high-speed gateway from south Mumbai to the western suburbs.

The plan, however, is fraught with difficulties because the road will have to be built in one of the busiest parts the city. Moreover, the elevated road at certain areas will be 20m high, which is equal to a five-storey building.
