MMRDA will start diploma course to train experts for transport sector

The courses are most likely to begin next year as the training centre is still being built.

Said Ashwini Bhide, joint metropolitan commissioner, MMRDA: “The courses will be designed in such a way that the enrollers are imparted training in various aspects of transport planning, its security and safety in transit. These will be imparted, while keeping in mind international standards set, across different countries."

Currently, the MMRDA has four-day training workshops organised by the MMRDA-formed National Mass Transit Training and Research Institute. These workshops, however, are only for municipal officers who are trained in various aspects of transport.

The courses will begin in phases.

“We first plan to start off with 3-4 day training modules which will help participants acclimatise with various aspects of the training,” said Bhide.

“After this, we will move on to regular diploma courses and will even consider tie-ups with foreign universities at a certain point.”
