On Thursday, MNS group leader Bala Nandgaonkar came to the legislative assembly, wearing neck and spine supporters to make his point on how dangerous potholed roads are for commuters.

Raising the issue in the zero hour, Nandgaonkar demanded that the government, which promptly initiated police inquiry into the desilting work carried out by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), should also hold government agencies like the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) responsible for the bad roads.

What’s more, the party is joined in this demand by rival party the Shiv Sena. The Shiv Sena is in power in the BMC and has voiced that the civic body has been given all the blame over the poor condition of city roads.

It has also alleged a political conspiracy in the CID probe on the desilting issue.

The government did not respond to the demand.
