The ongoing police probe into the two murders that exposed the underbelly of Mum-bai’s tinsel town saw some crucial developments on Thursday.

Smalltime model Simran Sood, who was already in custody in connection with the murder of aspiring film producer Karan Kakkad, has now been arrested for the killing of senior citizen Arun Tikku too. Police say she had introduced Vijay Palande, the main accused in both the murders, to Tikku’s son Anuj.
On March 15, a two-year lease agreement was signed between Palande’s German wife Nibis Ligenza and Anuj, in which Sood figures as a witness, according to a crime branch source.
Meanwhile, an internal police inquiry into Palande’s dramatic escape from a police jeep on April 10 found his relative and crime branch inspector, Sanjay Shinde, who was in the vehicle, had been negligent. Shinde had earlier been suspended.
A city court also remanded, Palande and his associates Dha-nanjaya Shinde and Manoj Gaj-kosh, being interrogated by the police in Tikku’s murder case, in police custody until May 10, this time for Kakkad’s murder.
