Modi fears witch-hunt for taking on Cong

Continuing his attack on the UPA, the BJP's prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, on Monday accused the Centre of using the CBI and other enforcement agencies to silence political opponents and also apprehended a witch-hunt.

He, however, said he was not like other leaders who buckled under pressure. He pledged to fight the Congress with support from other parties forming the NDA.

"I am made of the mitti (soil) of which Sardar Patel and Mahatma Gandhi (both from Gujarat, like Modi) were made," he told a gathering of diamond traders here.

"The CBI can silence Mulayam (Singh) or Mayawati but not me."

"In the next six months the government would do things which anyone who has lost sleep does," he said.

"People had expectations from the PM. People thought he was an economist... But the bubble has burst now."

"Despite abuse and criticism people continue to love and support me. There may be certain weaknesses in me but people never doubted my intentions," he said.

He asked party supporters to throw the UPA government out of power.

Modi was welcomed by a huge gathering of BJP workers at Mumbai airport. He addressed them from a temporarily constructed dais.

Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray and BJP senior leader Gopinath Munde were also present on the stage, but they did not speak.
