The city also witnessed heavy rain through Sunday night. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), from Sunday 8.30am to 8.30am on Monday, Santacruz recorded the highest rainfall of the season at 232.6mm and Colaba received 178.6mm.

On Monday, between 8.30am and 8.30pm, south Mumbai received more rain at 92.4mm while suburbs recorded 33.6mm rain.

The IMD forecast indicates intermittent rainfall with heavy to very heavy showers over the city for the next two to three days.

“An off shore trough along the west coast for last three to four days has resulted in the vigorous monsoon activity over Konkan, Goa, and north central Maharashtra and Gujarat region,” said VK Rajeev, director, western region, IMD

“Monsoon is also active over south central Maharashtra, Saurashtra and Kutch,” he added.

On Monday, maximum temperature dipped to about four degrees below the normal temperature at 26.2 degree Celsius in south Mumbai and 27.3 degree Celsius in the suburbs of the city.

Even the minimum temperature dipped by one degree below normal at 24.4 degree Celsius at Colaba and 23.5 degree Celsius at Santacruz.
