More city students cross 90% mark

The ICSE results were announced on Saturday. A total of 7,823 students took the exam from the city.

According to principals, students have performed better, with more scoring 90% and above compared to last year.

At HVB Academy, Marine Lines, 25 students scored 90% and above compared to 15 students in the last exam. “This year, for the first time, we had a one-to-one meeting with parents in which we shared their child’s performance. I think that has made a big difference. The credit also goes to students, who have given their best,” said Chandrakanta Pathak, principal, HVB Academy.

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE), which conducts the ICSE exams, does not provide a break-up of how many students scored above 90%. Each school gets its results and can tally the number of students in different percentage brackets.

At JB Petit School, Fort, 11 girls scored above 95%. At Campion School, Cooperage, the school’s average score went up from 83% to 86.6% this year. “Children studied hard, we should give them due credit for that,” said Paul Machado, principal, Campion School.

For students, the difference of a mark can cost them a seat in a junior college of their choice. “Students are getting more ambitious and competitive. To get into a good college, every mark counts. I will have to outperform my competitors to make sure I get admission to a good college,” said Wamika Lukha, a student of HVB Academy, who scored 91%.
