More hospital beds for city

Civic officials said the state government in its notification in May made it clear that more than 30 proposals had come from private hospitals requesting additional FSI for modernisation and expansion. Currently, the hospitals are given 1.33 FSI in island city and 1 in suburb. “We will implement the notification and consider the proposals coming to us now,” said Chief Engineer (Development Plan) Vishwas Joshi.

Civic officials say this would help increase number of hospital beds and the demand-supply gap will be bridged.

According to the Mumbai Human Development Report 2009, there is one public hospital bed for every 3,000 Mumbaiites. The ideal ratio is one bed or a population of 550, according to the World Health Organisation norms.
