After the spate of rapes and other crimes in Malad’s shady lodges, what have the police done?
In 2009, there were a few incidents reported from the lodges, but now we have kept a strict vigil on them and shut the illegal ones.

What steps have the police taken to curb the menace of illegal lodges?
We conduct surprise checks and raid the illegal lodges. We have shut down almost all the illegal ones.

What measures are being taken to reduce the crimes committed in these lodges that rent out rooms per hour?
We have issued warnings to the lodge owners to check the credentials and age proof of their guests. We have also told them not to rent out rooms to men who bring along girls who look like minors. The owners have been instructed to maintain a register with the guests’ particulars and we regularly check these registers. Patrolling around these lodges has also been increased.
