Ismail Parkar, 45, was arrested last week, while the second accused, Sagar Singh Thakur alias Khatri, 45, passed away in January this year. The police are now trying to trace the main suspect, Kuldeep, who is based in Delhi.

According to the crime branch official, the accused would get details of youngster from job portals.

They would mostly target MBA graduates and ask them to come to Fort for a meeting to discuss a job position abroad.

“Prasad and Thakur would tell the candidates that they will have to arrange for the foreign currency and would take them to the Killa court on the pretext of getting legal clearance. Seated in a random courtroom, one of them would wait with the victim, while the other would go into a cabin,” said an official from unit 1 of the crime branch.

The crime branch got CCTV camera footage of the corridor where the victims were made to sit, and were able to identify Parkar.

He was arrested from his residence near Crawford Market. He told the police Thakur had died of a heart attack while he was in the custody of the Thane City police.

“Thakur was the link between Parkar and Kuldeep Since he is dead, it is difficult to trace the third accused,” said another official.
