Mumbai: Gap widens between minimum, maximum temperatures

The minimum temperature at Colaba remained above normal at 23 degrees Celsius. Weathermen said that minimum temperatures will hover around 18 degrees Celsius for at least two days and there may be a drop in mercury after that.

The city has not witnessed minimum temperatures drop below 18 degrees Celsius this winter, with the mercury generally in the range of 18 to 21 degrees Celsius.

Although the minimum temperatures dipped on Saturday, the maximum temperature at both Colaba and Santacruz was above normal, increasing the gap between minimum and maximum temperatures.

At Colaba, the maximum temperature was 34.8 degree Celsius and 1.8 degrees above normal while at Santacruz it was 35 degree Celsius and two degrees above normal.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials said the maximum temperatures are expected to fall after Monday, December 8.

“Also, another western disturbance is developing and it may bring down minimum temperatures,” added Rajeev.

A western disturbance is an extra tropical storm that originates in the Mediterranean Sea and travels towards Himalayas carrying icy winds and heavy moisture.
