Following the Bombay high court’s intervention, the police on Wednesday allowed the Vile Parle Patidar Mandal to organise Durga Puja and dandiya events at an open space opposite PVR Cinemas in Juhu.

The organisers had obtained all the necessary no-objection certificates from civic and state authorities, but were denied permission on the ground that the venue fell under the silence zone.
“Don’t make it a prestige issue only because it is a Gujarati mandal,” the bench stated after the organisers pointed out that the police allow serving and consumption of alcohol, DJs on the same ground on various other occasions, but navratrotsav was not being allowed at the same open space.
The police subsequently relented and granted permission to the organisers.
