Mumbai: Late Bal Thackeray’s will hearing likely to be in camera

The will propounded by the late Bal Thackeray has become a subject of a legal battle because the late Sena chief purportedly bequeathed all his movable and immovable properties to Uddhav Thackeray.

The testamentary suit filed by Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray in the Bombay high court, to seek probate (validation) of the will propounded by his father — the late Bal Thackeray, is likely to be conducted in camera.

The will has become a subject of a legal battle because the late Sena chief purportedly bequeathed all his movable and immovable properties to Uddhav.

He left nothing for his other son Jayadev and the family of late son Bindumadhav. Though justice Gautam Patel agreed to the suggestion of holding the proceedings in-camera, as suggested by Uddhav’s counsel advocate Rajesh Shah, the final decision is likely to be taken on the next date because Jayadev sought time to take instructions in this regard.

On Monday, justice Patel also accepted 100 documents – 23 from Uddhav’s side and 77 from Jayadev’s side — in support of their respective contentions.

The judge, however, said the acceptance was subject to the party proving the relevance and correctness of the documents submitted by it.

The matter has now been posted for further hearing on Monday.
