The Mumbai police have launched two other campaigns for the next three months in which they will initiate action against video parlours showing pornography and also crackdown on drug addicts.

Police chief Rakesh Maria said action against video parlours was being taken, keeping in mind the cases of rape and molestation in the slum areas. The police have been asked to seize all equipment and to register cases against these offenders. Police said action would also be taken against those who supply porn clips on mobile phones.

Police said the third drive against drug addicts was an old drive that they had started when Maria became Mumbai police chief in February 2013. Both drives have been started with the aim of bringing down street crimes.

As per Mumbai police statistics, the drive against drug addicts has helped a lot and from February 2014 to 4th November 2014 – 9,558 cases were registered under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS) and 12,275 accused were arrested. While in all of 2013 – just 1,271 cases were registered and 3,941 accused were arrested.
