Mumbai’s Clean-Up drive inspires mayor of Kota

Kota, a city in Rajasthan, will now take a leaf out of Mumbai's cleanliness drive.

Dr Jain wrote to R. A. Rajeev, the additional municipal commissioner, who was transferred two ago as Thane municipal commissioner, on May 17 about her desire to visit Mumbai.

“I am interested in studying the system as Kota needs such a system as well. Actually, it is required every where in the country,” Ratna Jain told Hindustan Times.

She has also requested Rajeev to provide details about the clean-up campaign and to discuss how the system can be implemented effectively in the city.

The city of Kota generates about 300 metric tonnes of garbage every day while Mumbai generates 6,500 metric tonnes.

The clean-up campaign was launched in Mumbai in November 2007.

The marshals were authorised to fine people for spitting, littering and urinating in the public places.

“My vision is a clean and green Kota,” said Jain.

Rajeev said he agreed to extend his help to the Kota mayor.

“We must all strive for a clean neighbourhood, city and ultimately a litter-free nation.”

“I am ready to provide all the technical help the mayor may need,” Rajeev said.
