Mumbai still needs more water, cut to remain: BMC Chief

"We currently have 75 per cent of the lakes filled up but we still need more water to suffice the needs of Mumbaikars. So the 15 per cent water cut will remain. No decision can be taken on water cuts unless all the lakes start overflowing," Municipal Commissioner Jairaj Phatak said.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has imposed the 15 per cent water cut since July 22.

Currently, there is 9,15,224 million litres of water in all six lakes as compared to 12,04,028 million litres of water, meaning the city is still falling short of 2,88,804 million litres of water.

"We need 13,00,000 million litres of water in all the the six lakes to fulfill the needs for the entire year, which means we need 3,84,776 million litres of more water," Phatak said.
