Mumbai teacher accused of sodomising student

The incident took place on September 28 when the student went to the toilet, where the teacher allegedly grabbed him, covered his mouth and sodomised him, the boy told the police on Monday.

There was something amiss with a six-year-old student of Manav Mandir High School in Walkeshwar when he returned home on Tuesday last week. The Class 2 student was quiet and uncomfortable for the next two days, and on the weekend, his parents noticed he was bleeding.

When he was rushed to a hospital, they discovered their son had been sodomised.

On Monday, the student's physical education teacher was arrested on charges of sodomy.

Manav Mandir, a 55-year-old state board school, boasts of alumni such as author Suketu Mehta.

The incident took place on September 28 when the student went to the toilet, where the teacher allegedly grabbed him, covered his mouth and sodomised him, the boy told the police on Monday. The teacher then allegedly threatened to throw the boy under a bus if he complained.

"The teacher told the boy to blame a student studying in Class 6 of the same school. We noticed he was walking awkwardly, but thought he might be tired," the victim's paternal uncle said.

The parents then lodged a police complaint. "After the boy narrated the incident to us, we arrested the teacher," said Vinay Bagade, senior police inspector, Malabar Hill police station.

TRK Varma, the school administrator, said: "On Sunday, the parents said that it was the teacher who has abused their son. We will reinstate the suspended student as soon as the parents give us a letter to the effect."
