Aspiring candidates of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) will need to be well informed, said party chief Raj Thackeray on Saturday addressing them at Shanmukhananda Hall on Saturday.
The hall was over-packed with as many women aspirants as men. Thackeray has organised a written test on December 4 for the over 1300 candidates aspiring to contest the civic polls with an MNS ticket.
“None of the seats are ‘fixed’ as yet. There is no use trying to approach anyone ‘influential’. Even those who have been in politics for generations will be treated equal to others. I will select the candidate and will be talking to each person who clears the exam,” said Thackeray.
The test has an elaborate application form and information booklet costing Rs 1000. Examination centres and hall tickets with photos will be in place before December 4.
“Some people might call it a ‘stunt’ or a ‘gimmick’ but I really do not care about that. What I am bothered about is giving good candidates to people who trust and vote for me. If you do not know anything, how can I promise a better administration,” he asked.
“If you cannot read or write, how will you send letters, take decisions or question anything? If I do not get a good candidate in a ward, that will be an ‘optional ward’. I want to give good candidates for the better future of the city,” he said, adding that the written examinations would extend to every election, including the 2014 assembly elections.
