The civic improvements committee approved a policy allotting 50% of the city’s total number of parking lots to women self-help groups.

This policy, meant to break the stronghold of contractors operating the city’s parking lots, had been approved by the group leaders last year, following which an ex-councillor had moved court challenging the policy.

According to the new policy, 50% of the parking lots will be reserved for women self-help groups, 25% to educated-unemployed youths and 25% for the open category.
This policy will now be placed before the corporation, which will decide its fate.
