State board, or SSC, schools will follow a new syllabus from 2013 which, the state government claims, will be more objective and application-based.

The syllabus, which has been crafted after studying the curriculum of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and other state boards, will do away with a year-end final exam and adopt a method of continuous comprehensive evaluation.

On Friday, education minister Rajendra Darda approved the draft syllabus which will be put up on the state government website for suggestions. “The new syllabus will be introduced in phases and bring SSC students at par with other boards. Rote learning will be a thing of the past,” said Darda.

The new syllabus aims to reduce the burden on students with smaller textbooks. The revamp is in response to the growing number of students who are leaving SSC schools to join national and international boards.
