No immersion for some idols

Breaking away from tradition, Nayana Singh and her family brought home a Ganesh idol made of marble, and not Plaster of Paris.

“We thought it wasn't right to immerse the idol in the dirty sea water. To find parts of idols strewn on beaches the day after immersion is quite disheartening,” said Singh.

“For the last three years, several people are taking home Ganesh idols made of marble,” said Harish Shah who owns Hari Om Marble Shop at Mahim. “This year, the orders for marble idols have been more than ever.”
