No power tariff hike for R-Infra consumers

Suburban consumers who use power from Reliance Infrastructure (RInfra) have been spared a hike in their monthly electricity bills. RInfra has not proposed any tariff hike for the financial year that ends this March.

Suburban consumers who use power from Reliance Infrastructure (RInfra) have been spared a hike in their monthly electricity bills. RInfra has not proposed any tariff hike for the financial year that ends this March.

This is primarily because the state regulator, Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC), has allowed it last Monday to recover around Rs 222 crore from consumers to bridge the revenue gap of the past year.

This is expected to impact power bills of over 27 lakh consumers in a small way.

RInfra had asked MERC for approval to recover around Rs 693 crore, which is the difference between the revenue earned and the actual revenue required in 2010-11, from users.
