A formal announcement to this effect was made by the civic administration in the standing committee on Wednesday.

The administration said that the civic water department plans to supply water on a regular basis till June 30, which means that there will be no water cuts this summer.

“The lake levels are considerably high this year. We had 1.40 lakh million litres water in stock last year (2010) while this year we have 3.41 lakh million litres, as of May 4,” said RB Bambale, hydraulic engineer, Brihanmumbai Municipal Cooperation (BMC).

Additionally, the civic body has instructed contractors to concentrate on plugging leakages all over the city, to avoid cases of contamination. The BMC has appointed zonal contractors for laying new pipelines and repairing leakages.

Ravindra Waikar, Shiv Sena corporator turned member of legislative assembly, raised the issue in the standing committee meeting about the total water stock and the plan for distribution.
