Notice to CM, authorities over irregularities in schemes for poor

The Aurangabad bench of the Bombay high court has issued notices to Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan and several other authorities seeking to know if any action has been taken on the representations made by a Nandurbar resident who alleged ‘misdeeds’ in introduction of various schemes for the poor.

The Aurangabad bench of the Bombay high court has issued notices to Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan and several other authorities seeking to know if any action has been taken on the representations made by a Nandurbar resident who alleged ‘misdeeds’ in introduction of various schemes for the poor.

The petition filed by one Ramesh Gavit states that in 1999-2000, various misdeeds were noticed in granting benefits of schemes such as Sanjay Niradhar Yojana, Indira Gandhi Bhoomihin Shetmajoor, Old age Aid Scheme and Jawahar Well Scheme.

The petition states that the question was also raised on the floors of the legislative assembly and the Collector had reported to the government that about 850 bogus recipients had been identified.

Despite several representations to government authorities, including the chief minister, no action was taken, the petitioner has alleged.

The petitioner then moved the court in 2002, following which various directions were issued.
