Now, get cricket updates with IIT-B's Android app

Cricket fans who do not want to miss any action during the ongoing Champions League T20 series or other cricket tournaments can now use an Android application developed by students of IIT-Bombay (IIT-B). Mugdha Variyar reports.

Cricket fans who do not want to miss any action during the ongoing Champions League T20 series or other cricket tournaments can now use an Android application developed by students of IIT-Bombay (IIT-B).

For two fifth-year students from IIT-B, missing an exciting cricket match in January prodded them to look for a solution, and last month, they came out with an application called CrickAlarm.

"In January, during the VB Series, (annual ODI triangular series in Australia), my friends and I had assumed that the Indian team would lose the match against Sri Lanka, and hence, we didn't follow it," said Mirik Gogri, one of the founders of the application.

"But when we stepped out of the classroom, we got to know that our team had won, and we were upset at having missed the action. That is when my friend and I thought of designing an application to keep us updated during matches," said Gogri.

"If someone wants to know how much Yuvraj Singh has scored, you can customise the alarm, and you will be updated if he is nearing 100 runs so that you don't miss out on his century," said Gogri.

Gogri and his classmate Ayush Jain were backed by three alumni who recently started a firm to design mobile applications. "When they came to us with the idea, we thought it would make a useful application for all cricket fans," said Aaron D'Souza, who passed out from the institute last year.

"The response has been good and we have registered over 600 downloads already. We will soon make the application available for IOS and Blackberry phones as well," he added.
