The National Textile Corporation (NTC) has agreed to give the state government four-acre area of its India United Mill No 5 for the Chaityabhoomi expansion project.

The Chaityabhoomi ground, next to Shivaji Park, is the final resting place of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. As part of the project, the state plans to construct a university for social justice named after Babasaheb Ambedkar, a Vipassana meditation centre, a Bhikkhu Nivas (for Buddhist monks), among other amenities.
A decision was taken after the NTC top bosses met chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on Thursday.
The NTC is likely to construct a hotel with a convention centre on the remaining eight-acre plot. In return, the state will give them extra floor space index (FSI), an official said on condition of anonymity.
In another decision, the NTC approved of the state’s plan of setting a textile museum at Kalachowkie in Lower Parel.
