One arrested for playing loud music during immersion

The police recorded a decibel (db) level of 106 at the procession going from Arthur Road area to Dadar Chowpatty on Thursday. The permissible noise level is 70 db in residential areas.

According to S. S. Yadav, police sub inspector from Shivaji Park police station, “We had warned Rakesh Mauji Gohil (22), the vice-president of the mandal once during the immersion procession that the noise being created by them was beyond that permissible in residential areas. On their route from Arthur Road area to Dadar Chowpatty for the immersion they were passing through residential areas that included Shushrusha Hospital in Dadar.”

Yadav said, “ When the noise level did not go down in spite of warnings, we arrested Gohil under Section 15 (1) of the Environment Protection Act that deals with noise pollution.”

He added, “ We went to the spot with a noise level reading machine that displayed the decibel level as 106 which is far beyond the permissible limit. We informed Gohil about the same and arrested him.”
