Opposition boycotts CM’s tea party, asks govt to quit

“Not only the home minister, we demand that the entire government resigns,” said Eknath Khadse, the leader of opposition in the state assembly. He added that the Opposition would make the failing law and order situation the main issues in the coming parliament session and will use all means to expose the governmnent.

According to Khadse, the July 13 bomb blasts in the city had exposed the government and caused its popularity to plummet. “The citizens are not feeling safe. 12 days have passed, but not one accused have been arrested.” Said Khadse. “The people feel that there is no government at all,” he added. He also cited the example of the years 1995-99 —when the saffron alliance was in power —which saw neither bomb blasts nor communal riots.

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena too was of a similar opinion. “There is not a single section which is happy with the state government,” said Bala Nandgaonkar, MNS legislator.

The Opposition also critiqued the recent admission process in schools and colleges, land scams and said that the Right to Education bill lacked clarity.

They also demanded an entire day to the discussion of the falling sex ratio and increasing cases of female infanticide.
