Outstation train develops snag, affects peak-hour CR services

The main line timetable of Central railway (CR) went haywire during evening peak hours on Monday when CST-bound Chennai Express was halted for more than 45 minutes after a technical snag developed in its locomotive.

According to railway sources, Chennai Express was stopped between Vikhroli and Kanjurmarg station around 4pm. “There was some technical problem in its locomotive and a fast local was stuck behind it, which was completely empty,” said a railway commuter.

Due to the incident, fast line trains were diverted to slow line. It affected the suburban time table and trains were running 5-10 minutes during evening peak hours. However, CR authorities did not confirm the incident.

Meanwhile, activists of Republican Party of India (RPI) tried to stop suburban trains at some stations demanding the allotment of the 12.5-acre land of Indu Mills land for the construction of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar’s memorial.

On Western railway (WR), some RPI activists attempted rail roko at Borivli station. However, government railway police (GRP) and railway police force (RPF) foiled their attempt with the help of city police.

RPI activists also attempted rail roko at Mulund, Dombivli, and Bhandup stations. However, it did not affected services as the protest could continue only for a few minutes, said GPR sources.
