The parents of an eight-year-old girl reached just in tme to rescue her from a 34-year-old inebriated man who was trying to sexually abuse her at Goregaon on Sunday.
The accused, Ganesh Salien (34), a resident of Vivekanand Nagar at SV Road in Goregaon (West), is reportedly jobless and is infamous in the area. The victim's family also resides in the same area.
“When the girl was alone at home, Salien barged into the house and lured her with sweets and forcefully picked her up while she kept crying,” said an officer.
“Salien took the girl to an isolated place and molested her. The incident took place around 8.30 pm,” the officer added. The police said the victim’s parents had gone to Dahisar for some work. “When the girl's parents returned, they started searching for their daughter. It was then that one of the women in the neighbourhood, who had identified Salien and had seen him kidnapping the girl, told them about the incident,” said a senior officer.
The girl's parents, along with the neighbour, then started searching for Salien in the surrounding area.
“They spotted the accused with the victim behind the Ambamata mandir, located a few metres away from their house while he was trying to rape her. They immediately rescued the victim and raised an alarm,” said Sanjay Bannerjee, was produced before the Metropolitan Court at Borivli which remanded him to police custody till May 28,” said senior deputy commissioner of police, Zone XI.

{{/usCountry}}The residents then caught hold of the accused. A local resident informed the Goregaon police about the incident. The FIR was registered around 9.45 pm following which Salien was arrested.
