Patients move from general to critical unit

On Monday, Ashok Bate, a peon at a firm in Zaveri Bazaar, was shifted to the CCU from the general burns ward.

Dr TP Lahane, dean, JJ Hospital said: "When one develops severe burns, the area can get septic in a few days and the patient's health may deteriorate." He added that Bate had suffered more than 50% burns, and was not responding to antibiotics.

According to doctors at JJ Hospital, there are high chances of more patients becoming critical, because of infections after burn injuries. Doctors are also planning to shift Bate's friend, Sunder Bhisht, who has suffered 50% burns to the CCU.

"Both Bate and Sunder seemed to be doing well the night before Bate was shifted to the CCU," said Balwant Bisht, Sunder's brother, who has come to the city from Uttarakhand.

Dr Rajat Kapoor, from the burns ward, said: "Some patients have suffered deep injuries on the respiratory tract making them difficult to breathe."

Opera House blast victim Dharmendra Jadiya is another patient who was shifted to the CCU from the general ward on Saturday. He was apparently operated for a blood clot in the lungs.

"Post surgery, one may require intensive care and thus we have shifted him to the CCU," said Dr Atul Adaniya, the assistant medical director of the hospital.
