Most of the patients had suffered fractures in their left arm.

The Central Railway will pay for the patients’ treatment.

Most of the injured patients will take at least three months to heal, said doctors.

“All these patients have multiple fractures. They will easily take about two to three months to regain normal functionality,” said Dr SR Mukhi, orthopaedic surgeon, Raj hospital, where three patients have been admitted. All five patients admitted in Mulund’s Fortis hospital have fractured their left hands and underwent surgery.

“Six patients from the railway accident cases came to our hospital. One of them was treated in the OPD and sent home after we plastered his hand,” said Dr S Narayani, head of medical services, Fortis, Mulund.

Officials at Rajawadi hospital said the patients chose to get treated at private hospitals after railway officials told them that they would foot the medical bills of any hospital they choose to get treated from.

Godrej hospital at Vikhroli and Sapna hospital in Ghatkopar are treating one patient each. The patient at Sapna too required surgery. Four more patients are still at the Railway Hospital in Kalyan, while the rest have been discharged after treatment.
