Shiv Sena corporator, Manmohan Chonkar wrote to mayor Shraddha Jadhav, suggesting that pet licence fees should be at least Rs1,000 per year.

“This will be help restrict the number of dogs and decrease their nuisance value in the society,” he said. The issue will be discussed in the general body meeting next week.

"Those who can afford dogs, pay anything between Rs50,000 to a lakh to buy it and spend Rs 10,000 a month on its maintenance. So, they can easily pay higher fees," said Chonkar.

The BMC has submitted to proposal to the state seeking a hike of Rs500. “It will be too much of a jump if we increase the fees from Rs100 to Rs1,000,” Dr Gaurish Ambe, executive health officer, BMC. The proposal is pending with the state urban development (UD) department. “It is under consideration," said an officer from UD department.
