The Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) charge sheet in the Sheena Bora murder case accuses Peter Mukerjea of playing a key role in the conspiracy to kill his step-daughter Sheena Bora in April 2012 and includes call records and bank statements as evidence.

However, Monday’s proceedings in the CBI court hearing the case indicated that investigators also have evidence against Peter that no-one but they and judge H S Mahajan have seen.

When rejecting Peter’s bail application, judge Mahajan made reference to certain information in the case diary, maintained by the investigating officer, which could not be disclosed to the defence at this stage.

According to the CBI’s charge sheet, Peter and Indrani hatched the conspiracy to kill Sheena. The CBI alleged that their motive to do so was their disapproval of Sheena’s relationship with Peter’s son Rahul and their decision to wed.

Later, the alleged that Peter and Indrani had siphoned off nearly Rs 900 crore to bank accounts, possibly in Sheena’s name, in Singapore. The agency recently sought permission from the court to write letters of request to four countries to help trace the couple’s bank accounts.

Peter first applied for bail two months after his arrest on January 4. The court rejected his bail application saying that the CBI was yet to file the charge sheet and that the investigation was at a crucial stage.

A few days later, the CBI filed a supplementary charge sheet against Peter, accusing him of being a key conspirator. The charge sheet alleged that on April 24 and 25, 2012, when Sheena was allegedly abducted and murdered, Indrani was in constant touch with Peter, who was in London at the time, and that they discussed details of the plan on the phone.
