The model submitted an application to the zonal deputy commissioner of police Pratap Dighavkar on Monday, following which the Versova police was directed to record her statement.

Kapoor claimed she has received several threat calls since Tuesday after she first approached the police on Monday. "I have received at least 12 calls from two different numbers of Mumbai and Delhi. The unknown person threatened to bump me off if I don't stop pursuing the case. The person claims to be Rauf's friend," she said.

The 21-year-old said Rauf, an International Cricket Council (ICC) elite panel umpire, had promised her marriage but suddenly stopped taking her calls a few weeks ago. Kapoor said: "I feel victimised as he used to keep nagging me to marry him. However, he suddenly stopped taking my phone calls. He even claimed he didn't know me."

Kapoor had also alleged in her statement that Rauf had claimed he would buy a flat and a car for her.

Dighavkar said, "I have asked the Versova police to look into the matter. We would first record statements."

Meanwhile, PTI reports that Rauf admitted that photographs of the two (his and Kapoor's) posing together were real, but he denied having any relationship with her.

"I am 56 and happily married with two kids, and at my age how can I promise to marry anyone else. I don't know why she is doing this but if she continues to defame me and cause me and my family pain then I will take legal action against her," Rauf told PTI.

"The allegations levelled by her are preposterous and she is just making this story up to gain cheap publicity and fame," he said. Rauf said he was consulting his lawyer on framing a response to the charges. "I am discussing the matter with my lawyer and will adopt a future course of action after that," he said.

Rauf also said he would appear before the Indian police if he is summoned over the issue. "I have committed no crime so I am not afraid of facing any inquiry," he said.
