The Jet Airways pilot, who was charged with raping an airhostess he was having a live-in relationship with, had reportedly landed an hour earlier than his schedule to evade arrest.
“We were in touch with the airline management and therefore learnt of his changed plans. A police team reached the domestic airport earlier than planned and arrested him,” said Sub-Inspector Asha Korke of the Powai police station.
On May 29, Varun Agarwal (27), a resident of Military road in Andheri (East), was arrested for allegedly raping his 22-year-old colleague over two years.
The police records claim that the couple met in 2007, as they both worked in the same airline. Later they began sharing the same flat.
On May 28, the victim lodged a First Information Report (FIR) after Varun refused to legally marry her because his father, Arvind Kumar, threatened to deny him right over his property.
Police officials said Arvind was against the marriage because he was reportedly apprehensive of losing out on dowry that his son could have got by marrying someone else in his community.

But after the FIR was lodged when he was again called to the police station, Varun told the officials that he was out of town and will return after a week.
The police then got in touch with the airline management who told them that Varun was in Kolkata and will reach Mumbai domestic airport on May 29 at 12.30 pm.
However, apprehending his arrest, Varun changed his plan and boarded a flight from Kolkata to Pune and then to Mumbai.
“Agarwal managed to reach the city about an hour earlier to hoodwink the police, who were already waiting for him at the airport,” said a police officer, requesting anonymity for lack of authorisation to talk to the media.
A spokesperson for the Jet Airways refused to comment on the case.
