Following an application from Yash Raj Films to lodge a First Information Report (FIR) against the International Cricket Council (ICC), Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), for violation of music copyright, the Marine Drive police station has started questioning members of the organising committee who were in charge of the music arrangements at the Cricket World Cup.

According to the police, the complainants, Novex Communications, Yash Raj Films’s authorised agency that issues licences for use of film songs and promos at public events had claimed that the ICC, BCCI and MCA did not have permission to use the Bollywood numbers that were played during the World Cup.
“We are questioning people and are trying to trace the individuals who were behind it,” said an officer of Marine Drive police station.
Assistant commissioner of police (Colaba Division) Iqbal Shaikh, said the FIR would be lodged only if preliminary investigations show that the music was played at the behest of one of the three organisations.
